I have tried to update mine for the past 3 to 4 days and it still is coming up with the same error over and over again and ive even called the zune support thing and it gave me some towelhead that didnt kno what he was doing after telling me to completely erase my stuff from it and then after that saying UHMMMMMMMMM for about 10 mins then finally telling me to call back later if nething changes is there anyway i can get this error to go away ive boxed it up and im about to just ship it back and get my money back and for only haveing it for 3 monthes it shouldnt have any problems with it. i have 2 pc's and mine tells me the error and then i tried it on the other pc and it told me to rename it and then when i went to the sync page it said error plz try again later... idk what the deal is but you would think for someone that has billions of dollars he'd have all this hsit fixed by now... plz reply back with help on this thing...

Same issue as the above post, piece of crap loves to say its syncing and does nothing.
Bring back the old eight tracks, I can handle the shredded tape, at least i know whats going on then!

yea got the firmware but it say my zune is not connected now what should i do help plz

you should probably do the following:

disconnect your zune
do a hard reboot of your zune (not just power off and on)
reconnect your zune

I have the same prob

Saturday my zune lost power
So i promptly put it on the charger
When i returned to use it
It had a display on the screen with a 1 in the upper right hand corner, with text saying "connect zune to pc"
I went through all the steps to updating my firmware about 100 times
Including the hard reboot
And clearing the contents of my zune
I called up microsoft
They send send it in for a repair, but seeing as how i do not have the receipt because this was a gift to me
I cannot send it in and i cannot return it
I dont even have the original box it came in

Any suggestions?

Hi Everyone, I am having a huge problem with my Zune. I just bought it this week for my birthday and i am very excited to use it. My Zune came with the Firmware 1.0

I am trying to sync it to my computer but in order for that to happen i need the new Firmware 1.3 update. So i am like sure y not no big deal. I connect my zune and i get the update message and i leave it alone and play some games. 2 hours later my zune is on the same menu and it looks like nothing on it has changed. I have been trying to Update for 2 days now for over 30 min each time trying probably 20 times. I tried turning on and off my firewall and i been reading as many forum post's as possible. It seems like i am not the only one with the problem but i am wondering if it is because i have the 1.0 version it will be harder to update? My Update screen stays at Waiting for device to update................ for a ungodly amount of time.

If anyone can give me some sort of advice or help or even some clues into what i should do in order to get this update to finally work. I will try to describe everything that is happening. My zune stays on the screen "connected" and the only thing that changes on my computer is the amount of dots that fill the screen. The Zune does not restart or anything. I have fallen asleep while doing this and for 10 hours still nothing has happened. I figure if i keep on trying eventually it will work. But i really would like to know if anyone can help me out in any way possible. Thank you so much!

I have the same problem I just bought my zune yesterday and have been trying for the past 24 hours to no avail

This worked for me try to update and reinstall all the software with your zune plugged in and your computer not connected to the internet

Yeah, the same happened to me. Funny thing is, my Zune had all ready installed the update, and then now it asked me to do it again!

Anyway, what I did was the following.
1) Disconnect Zune from PC and the wire from itself.
2) Disables Wireless Internet Connection
3) Hard Rebooted Zune
4) Closed Zune Software (Make sure the settings don't allow the Zune software to open when a Zune device is connected before closing!!!)
5) Turn off your firewall settings. GO TO CONTROL PANEL >> WINDOWS FIREWALL >> TURN OFF (NOT RECCOMENDED)
5) Plug USB wire to Zune.
6) Plug Zune wire to A DIFFERENT USB PORT!!! PREFERABLY IN THE BACK OF YOUR PC, NOT THE FRONT!!! IF YOU ALL READY HAVE IT IN THE BACK, PLUG IT INTO ANOTHER PORT, THERE MUST BE AT LEAST TWO.
7) Inserted my Zune CD/DVD
8) The Zune CD should say: "Zune Software is up to date." If it doesn't let it install the new version. If it is up to date, click NEXT.
9) Zune software opens.
10) Window pops up saying "New Firmware...show some love" blah, blah. Click Next.
11) While the firmware is updating and such, make sure to hold in (gently, and yet firmly) the zune cable INTO THE ZUNE DEVICE!
12) The Zune should reboot about 5 times. The last reboot will be after a weird-looking message of step 3 that will display on your Zune.

Then it showed the home screen and it was done. This was the about 10th time I tried, and it worked in that specific way.

the policy is been changed if you wants to repaire you dont need a receipt .

it says updating 100%

then reboots for the first time, computer takes a while to recognise it again, then computer says USB device malfunction then the software goes to 'finalizing updates' then it says update failed

how do you Hard Reboot a Zune??

I have had the same problem and working on it for days now. But finally I suceeded. Michaels post on 5/21/07 really works! I tweaked it though. I pressed hard reset during the 3.1 firmware install then I gently raised up on the connection to the zune. It started rebooting on its own and voila. Thanks Michael for your post!
