Future of Objects and Services
Don Box made an insightful post clarifying some of his statements that have been warped out of context as of late. I totally agree with Don on this one. SOA does not mean the end of Objects. While Services are wonderful and can be pretty powerful in a large, distributed application, they can be overkill for a smaller project. If you're going to plant some small flowers in a flowerbed, you would not (at least if you are somewhat sane) plant those flowers using a large Bobcat. The problem I see with ......

Thank you Sir, may I have another?
Well, good news everybody!! My wife and I made an offer on a home in Battle Ground, WA and it was accepted!! I am buying my first home and boy, is it a rush!!! The only problem is everything related to the loan. When my friends advised me that it would be an invasive process, I obviously had no clue HOW invasive it would be. Regardless of the outcome, I am still feeling as invaded, if not more invaded, than Cartman ......

Mixed Emotions
Well, for anyone who hasn't heard the news, it looks like Rory might be moving the east-coast to take a more permanent co-hosting position on the .NET Rocks Show. I am definitely excited for the great opportunity Rory is getting, but perhaps at the same time I am a little jealous ;). Even though I have only met Rory on a couple of occasions, he will most definitely be missed by many in the Portland area. Good luck Rory ......

A Jazz Fan's Heaven
Man, early February is a jazz fan's heaven here in Portland, OR. For anyone in the area, check out the Portland Jazz Festival. There are going to be names like Wayne Shorter, Regina Carter, Poncho Sanchez, Gary Burton and many more. The concert I'm looking forward to the most? A Ray Brown Tribute concert featuring John Clayton, Benny Green, and Jeff Hamilton. Man! It's like sweet, succulent, jazz confectionery sugar sprinkled down upon us by an angelic, heavenly host. If you're from the early 1900s ......

I'm as nervous as all get out
Frist of all, any of you who don't know much about me, I am a jazz pianist outside of work. With that said, I shall move on. Well, I just got off the phone with Dave Barduhn and he asked me to be the piano player in a trio backing the wonderful jazz vocalist Kevin Mahogany. Kevin Ma-frickin-hogany people!!! I'm ecstatic. I'm @#)*( ec-frickin-static here. At the same time, I am deathly afraid. I'm afraid that when I take the stage to play with him my brain will explode in some sort of freakish runaway ......

I can't fight this feeling anymore
Man, what a high. This feeling is exactly why I love being a developer. You know that feeling when you start programming in an area you are just learning, and you venture out on a limb writing some code and it works?!?! I love that! It's better than any high I can think of. I just started getting back into managed DirectX. Well, you can only guess what I am doing since saying “managed DirectX” gives it away. Once I am finished with the game, I am thinking of writing up a series of articles ......

I don't have a 3rd Place
Rory posted a wonderful reaction to how some people disliked his .NET Rocks show. Beyond his post, it made me start thinking about my third place again. Actually, it made me start thinking about the lack thereof. I'll say it now, I don't have a third place and it makes me sad. I kind of have a “virtual” third place that is a sort of amalgam of various websites and blogs. But that doesn't satisfy the personal need for a physical third place. No matter where you live in this world, I would ......

The gang's all here
It's been a long time since you have all heard from me, I know. There is a reason though. That reason is ....... My wife and I are finally buying a home!!!! We've been looking around for the last month or so and found one we really like tonight in Battle Ground, WA. I would give you all a link to it, but then you would know where I might live in the future. And that isn't good if you stalk me and wife like Rory does. And by stalking my wife and me, I really mean just stalking me. And by Rory stalking ......
